About Us

A new chapter in an old story.


We come from a traditional background, and we cherish those roots. We embrace a faith that includes everyone and recognizes God's love for all people. We seek to partner with him in helping to heal what has been broken in our own lives and in the lives of all who cross our path. 

We’ve leaned into our name—Immanuel—because we believe God is intimately present in our neighbourhoods, our struggles, and our joy.


The Journey


Faith is a lifelong journey of discovery, and that journey happens in our everyday lives.  Attending church is not the "narrow way" Jesus talks about - the narrow way is the way of love of neighbour, no matter what. 

We strive to be a safe space,  where you can be authentic, where questions are honoured, and where no one has to pretend they’re okay when they aren’t.


We want to be a community church in the truest sense—locally rooted, globally minded, and radically inclusive.

Our History

  • Immanuel Christian Reformed Church began in Brampton in the late 1940s, started by Dutch immigrants after WWII.
    The church became part of the Christian Reformed Church, a denomination with Dutch roots in the U.S. and Canada.
  • In 1954, our congregation built its first worship space at 63 Church Street in downtown Brampton.
  • Throughout our history Immanuel has supported local and global communities through Christian schools, youth programs, service trips, missions, and disaster relief work.
  • After our Church Street building burned down in 2003, we moved to our present location on Mayfield Road,  opening a new building in 2008.
  • We cherish the roots of our Reformed background - but have come to see that asking a new question of an old truth does not invalidate the old truth, but expands it.
  • As a result, after several years of prayer and deliberation, we made the decision to move beyond our formal Reformed association and focus on being a community church.
  • We’re leaning into our name - Immanuel - God With Us - because we believe God is intimately present in our neighbourhoods, our struggles, and our joy.
